KELI tells the story of a fiery, sharp-witted teenager in a former mining town. Coal means little to Keli, but the mines left music in the blood of this place.

Skye (Age 15) - ★★★★★

"Keli, felt well cast and relatable as the issues that the characters had were very realistic to issues real people have. Such as over built stress or pressure from others. The mum made me feel empathetic as I felt I could understand the pressure she was under and the issues she had to deal with.

The music was outstanding and really showed the sound of the brass band in all different forms from the beautiful harmony’s of a band to the up beat tunes of the solo horn, the whole cast were extremely talented and I found it rather funny that the main character of Keli, couldn’t actually play the horn. overall it was a great show."

Matthew Bourne’s audacious, rule-breaking reinvention of Tchaikovsky’s masterpiece caused a sensation when it premiered almost 30 years ago.  It has now become the most successful dance theatre production of all time, creating new audiences and inspiring generations of young dancers. In celebration of that ongoing impact, Swan Lake will take flight once more in a major new revival for the next generation of dancers, and for audiences who will experience it for the very first time.

Lorna - ★★★★★

"Matthew Bourne's Swan Lake is a masterpiece. The choreography and performances are transcending, pulling you in from the very beginning. The choice to gender swap the role of the swans, a choice made 30 years ago, is just as poignant and beautiful today. Laced with humour, drama, and intimacy it is truly a joy for all."

Film - Cinema

The Clown and the Wolfman ride again as the classic Scottish movie starts a new adventure as a stage musical!

Stewart - ★★★★★

"Absolutely pure dead brilliant! This is the Scottish feel good comedy musical of the summer! Admittedly I was not familiar with the cult '80s Scottish movie that the musical is based on but you really don't need to be.

This cheeky musical is full of laughs, a loveable gallery of quirky characters and performed with absolute gusto by a fabulous cast. Songs are all crackers - including a few Big Country bangers that people may very well likely recognise.

The story follows a couple of down on their luck young men who decide to hold up the local tourist buses using their masks from the joke shop they work in. They soon become national heroes. The synopsis itself gets a giggle and so the show itself plays into the goofiness to perfect effect and there's some stand out moments including a Country Western American Sheriff dance off against a Scottish Dancing champion and then the cartoon style gangster bar in the second half nearly steals the show.

The show gets the right balance between silliness, tongue-in-cheek and heartfulness. Get an Irn-Bru or a pint of Tennents with a Tunnocks teacake and catch this wee belter now!"

★★★★★

Dunfermline Carnegie Library & Galleries, until 8th June

Fife Contemporary are pleased to announce Hag. Knowledge, Power & Alchemy through Craft, an exhibition challenging perceptions of women and craft open in Dunfermline Carnegie Library & Galleries.

Stewart - ★★★★★

"A stunning exhibition, well laid and thought out. I was particularly taken by Jo McDonald's works - the ripped up bits of old books taking on a new shape and form.

The theme and even the title are a little controversial perhaps but it's taking ownership of female creatvity arts and connection to nature, whilst considering the hardships of the women who faced accusations of witchraft many years ago for having a similar originality.

The books, video and even art activities and hands on in the last room of the gallery are an excellent addition. A thought provoking, atmospheric and powerful free exhibition to take in whilst in Dunfermline.

We've done a lot of work on Scottish witch trials (as well as Arthur Miller's The Crucible) over the past few years at Mix Up Theatre as a stimulus for devising so this was of real interest."

Cameron Mackintosh and Disney’s spectacular production of the classic multi-award-winning musical is embarking on a UK and Ireland tour.

Alba (Age 7 ) - ★★★★★

"The Musical was excellent, more than that it was absolutely amazing, colorful, funny, magical, we loved it overall

In Alba’s words’ this is my favourite show so far, she was vividly enjoying every scene, she particularly loved the supercalifragilisticexpialidocious spelling song and ‘A Spoonful of Sugar ‘song, she keeps saying she loved Mary Poppins Character, and of course Bert, he was very funny.

Not to mention the finale, when Mary Poppins leaves flying away from the stage, it was trully magical, she was stunned and amazed. Alba believes it was the real Mary Poppins on the stage. We will always remember it fondly and it will always have a special place in our hearts, especially for Alba."

"I’m a sinner, not a saint.”

April 3, 1968. Room 306, the Lorraine Motel, Memphis. It’s Dr Martin Luther King Jnr’s last night on Earth.

Exhausted from a life on the road, hoarse from testifying day after day, all King wants is a coffee and some cigarettes.

Room service arrives in the form of Camae, a motel maid with the face of an angel who smokes, drinks, and curses like a sailor while giving King a run for his money.

This urgent production imagines the man behind the legend on the eve of his assassination. Pulling away the mask of his public façade and revealing private turmoil – the conflict of the family man and the martyr, desperate to finish what he started.

Set during the height of America’s Civil Rights Movement, Katori Hall’s Olivier award-winning play confronts life, death and the idea of legacy.

Mix Up Theatre is a youth theatre that runs drama classes for Ages 3-18 throughout Scotland (Edinburgh, Dunfermline, Linlithgow, South Queensferry).
