Theatre REVIEW: Teechers - ★★★★

ree

A high-energy comedy with a punchy political message about the state of our country’s education system.

Gail, Hobby and Salty are presenting their hilarious end-of-term play, one that tells the tale of their new drama teacher’s progress at their chaotic school. After two terms of rowdy students, downtrodden colleagues and a system on the brink, will this idealistic teacher be swayed by the calmer waters of a local private school?

With just three actors taking on over 20 different roles with only the props of a classroom to hand, Teechers is a tour-de-force of live theatre and storytelling.

"Teechers is a fun and energetic show. It sends a strong message about the British education system, specifically the difference between state and private school education. In the show, three characters perform an end of term play about their school year and their drama teacher. It was impressive to see how three actors managed to play so many characters, they even took turns at playing some of the roles.

The story was pretty good, but it was predictable. For the first 45 minutes, I wasn't very engaged in the show; it was very easy to tell what would happen. However, the second half was really good, it had lots of funny moments, and was a lot more action-packed.

The set was really cool, it had a minimalistic style, which was enhanced by the illuminating ceiling panels. The panels were cleverly used to add an interesting effect to the atmosphere of the play.

Overall, Teechers is a fast-paced and funny show, even though it has not got much action."
