It is the first installment in The Hunger Games film series.

The Hunger Games received positive reviews from critics, with praise for its themes and messages, emotional depth, as well as Lawrence's portrayal of Katniss and acting; some criticism was leveled at the film's reliance on shaky cam, especially in the action sequences, and its similarities to other works.

Jan (Age 10) - ★★★1/2

"Too dramatic in my opinion. It was thrilling to watch."

Sophie (Age 10) - ★★★★★

"After reading the book I was really excited to watch the film and I was not disappointed. The film was very true to the book and Jennifer Lawrence plays an amazing Katnis Everdeen. Full of action be drama, I was kept on the edge of my seat as the story unfolded and I can’t wait to read and watch the next films. "

There's plenty of sci-fi action in the Avengers movies with a strong female role for Scarlett Johansson's Black Widow. Strong female characters fighting totalitarianism in sci-fi also turn up in Star Wars and Avatar. Inception meanwhile has a dangerous battle in complex lands - the mind! And of course you can finish off the series catching the sequels.
