Comedy in modern times, is entertainment with generally funny content. It is able to make people laugh. This definition was used for theatre plays, and was first used in Ancient Greece.
Aristotle defined this as “Comedy is, as an imitation of characters of a lower type- not, however, in the full sense of the word bad, the ludicrous being merely a subdivision of the ugly. It consists in some defect or ugliness which is not painful or destructive. To take an obvious example, the comic mask is ugly and distorted, but does not imply pain.”
To him, the lampooners became writers of Comedy and the truly artistic ones became writers of Tragedy.
Comedy is also a media genre that is for television shows or movies that are either funny or silly. People who are known for acting in comedies are termed as comedians or comedic actors.

The latest movie from Pixar tops the comedy chart!

2. Onward (2019)
Another great film from Pixar!

3. Men in Black (1997)
A super snappy, fun and intelligent sci-fi comedy.

"You know what the difference is between you and me? I make this look GOOD."
4. The Christmas Chronicles (2018)

It's predictable and a little cheesy but a fun movie with Kurt Russell a fantastic Santa.
Funniest line...
"I'm Santa Claus, Teddy, not Yoda."
5. The Addams Family (1991)
ON NETFLIX
A laugh a minute sight gag filled, Gothic comedy.
Funniest line...
"I'm a homicidal maniac, they look just like everyone else."
6. Deadpool (2016) (Age 15)
ON NETFLIX
A totally silly but hilarious take on the superhero genre for older students only.
Funniest line...
"I had another Liam Neeson nightmare. I kidnapped his daughter and he just wasn't having it."
7. Deadpool 2 (2018) (Age 15)
A bonkers, rude, funny and very tongue-in-cheek superhero comedy that throws everything at you.
Funniest line...
"Zip it, Thanos!"
8. Abominable (2019)
Anything with a yeti in it gets our vote but this is a charming animated family comedy.
Funniest line...
"Hey, don't go body-shaming my yak!"
9. Sister Act (1992)
The film milks all the laughs out of a fantastic concept with fab roles for Whoopi Goldberg and Maggie Smith.
Funniest line...
"Bless us, oh Lord, for these Thy gifts which we are about to receive. And yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of no food, I will fear no hunger. We want you to give us this day, our daily bread. And to the republic for which it stands, and by the power invested in me, I pronounce us ready to eat. Amen."
10. Back to the Future (1985)
Mainstream Hollywood entertainment at its best, a classic time travelling comedy.

11. Paddington (2014)
ON AMAZON PRIME
A warm, witty and inventive take on the Paddington bear story with lots of great performances.
Funniest line...
"Um, you're not using those ear brushes to clean your mouth are you, Mr Brown?"
12. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005)
ON NETFLIX
A madhouse comic musical from Tim Burton.
Funniest line...
"Everything in this room is eatable, even I'm eatable! But that is called "cannibalism," my dear children, and is in fact frowned upon in most societies."
13. Inside Out (2010)
Great concept and imagination from Pixar and lots of silly heartfelt moments. Brilliant.
Funniest line...
"Congratulations San Francisco, you've ruined pizza! First the Hawaiians, and now YOU!"
14. The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part (2019)
Delightful, slightly bonkers family comedy that should appeal to everyone who taps into it's wacky style.
Funniest line...
"How many movies are made about you? None. I have nine movies, and three more currently in development."
15. Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs (2009)
A smart, fast paced comedy. Lots of fun!
Funniest line...
"I wanted to run away that day, but you can't run away from your own feet."
16. Back to the Future Part II (1989)
Another fantastic trip back to the future with the satire matching the entertainment value.
Funniest line...
"The time-traveling is just too dangerous. Better that I devote myself to study the other great mystery of the universe: women!"
17. The Goonies (1985)
A brilliant adventure movie with laughs to be had along the way.
Funniest line...
"Everything. OK, I'll talk! In third grade, I cheated on my history exam. In fourth grade, I stole my uncle Max's toupee and I glued it on my face when I was Moses in my Hebrew School play. In fifth grade, I knocked my sister Edie down the stairs and I blamed it on the dog... when my mom sent me to the summer camp for fat kids and then they served lunch I got nuts and I pigged out and they kicked me out!"
18. Goosebumps (2015)

A spooky family comedy about.... books!

"Let me tell you something about Steve King. Steve King wishes he could write like me. I've sold way more books than him, but no one ever talks about that!"
19. Back to the Future Part III (1990)
The wit of the original is in full swing here as the time travel trilogy concludes in the Wild West.

"You're just not thinking fourth dimensionally!"
20. Incredibles 2 (2018)
A sweet family story still lies at the heart of this action packed superhero comedy.
Funniest line...
"I don't KNOW that way, why would they change math? Math is math, math is math!"
