Theatre REVIEW: Game within a Game - ★★★★

When we play, anything is possible: the floor is made of lava, objects fly through the air and everyday items take on a whole new meaning. The stool is a raft, a bridge, a tower. It stands on its head, lies on its side, stands on its feet... From an almost infinite selection of possibilities, new worlds emerge, expand and are discarded.

But how does one game lead to another? Who decides what happens next? Who makes the rules and how to make the best decision? And what happens if someone doesn't want to take part?

Three dancers get involved in this humorous and touching ‘game within a game’, exploring different rules, spaces and choices.

Ailsa (Age 5) - ★★★★

"I liked this show because it was silly and sometimes it made sense and sometimes it didn't! The three people had fun and I wanted them to win their game. Their movements on the stage were very good and I bet they were practising for a long, long, long time.

It was funny and made me giggle when they were behind the screen and popping out. We didn't know what was going to happen next. Near the end the friends were throwing the clothes to stand on because the floor was lava but I didn't know they were going to start putting them back on. In this game they could use stools and the box and clothes.

My favourite part was when the girl had nice footwork when the shoes were controlling her and she made the shoes on her hands and feet look like a caterpillar shape moving. Also, at the end they taught the audience to make moves from the show with strings on our arms and legs we imagined were there."
