Theatre REVIEW: Waiting for Godot - ★★★★★

Matthew Kelly and George Costigan star in a new staging of Samuel Beckett’s classic play – in which absolutely nothing happens.

Set in a shifting, timeless landscape, Waiting for Godot follows two men, Vladimir and Estragon, as they wait for someone who may never come. As they pass the time with scraps of conversation, moments of tenderness and flashes of dark humour, their story becomes a moving reflection on what it means to keep going in a world that rarely offers answers.

Beckett’s timeless play endures as one of the defining works of the 20th century and returns to our stage in all its strange, funny and heartbreaking brilliance. Darkly comic and deeply moving, Waiting for Godot is a profound exploration of what it means to be human – even when the waiting never ends.

Citizens Theatre, Glasgow - until 14th March

"I thought this show was amazing, the character dynamic between Gogo and Dede (Vladimir and Estragon) was amazing, the way they bounced off of each others words and made everything look so natural and unplanned is a skill.

Lucky and Pozzo were hilarious but I felt bad for lucky until he kicked Gogo

(Lucky's dancing skills are immaculate! But when he was told to think I couldn't really understand what he was saying because he was talking so quick)

They had the audience laughing at every other sentence but there was a few jokes I didn't get (and a few adult jokes!)

I got a little confused when the boy showed up twice but then I realized Dede was most likely dreaming?

I was so invested in seeing if Godot would actually show up, they made the time go by so quickly.

Their projection was great and they used the whole stage, which by the way was also an amazing set.

But overall an amazing show, definitely must see!"
