Theatre REVIEW: The Croft - ★★★★

Escape to the Highlands with this real life ghost story.

Would you spend a night alone in the croft?

Two women arrive at a former Crofters Hut in the deserted village of Coillie Ghille, when suddenly the weekend getaway takes an unexpected turn.

Cut off from the modern world, Laura and Suzanne find themselves drawn into the dark history of the Croft and the lives that passed before them.

Liza Goddard (Doctor Who, Bergerac) and Caroline Harker (Emmerdale, A Touch of Frost) star alongside Gray O’Brien (who recently performed at the Festival Theatre in Rebus) in this haunting play drawing on Scottish folklore.

"The Croft is a 13+ play about a true haunting in the Scottish Highlands. It's a very well made show and makes for a good day out. However, it was slightly hard to follow at times as a few of the actors play multiple characters and don't adress when they change into these other characters. And at the beginning I wasn't sure of the relationship between Lora and Suzanne weather they were friends or dating was quite confusing. And we weren't quite sure what happened at the end, it wasn't explained very well.

It wasn't too scary apart from the jump scares and the chanting. The actors very clearly put their all into these roles embracing and showing every emotion with passion. There was some sensitive topics in the show which made for extremely emotional scenes, especially when they found the letters.

Lora arguing with her dad was a very strong part of the show which made you feel for the characters.

When Lora started singing it was out of this world, she has such an amazing voice you couldn't take your eyes off the stage.

Overall I would rate this a 4/5 stars, great show definitely recommend."
