Theatre REVIEW: A Play, A Pie & A Pint - Feis - ★★★★

ree

Selling used socks on the internet is not what Deirdre had planned, but it’s the only way to make dosh after her daughter Aoife lost the Irish World Dancing Championships and destroyed the reputation of the family’s prestigious dancing school.

When her well-meaning mother scares off the school’s last promising dancer, Deirdre calls Aoife, desperate for her daughter to dance once again and help save the family.

FEIS is a new dark comedy by Anna McGrath about Irish dancing, mothers and their daughters, and the importance of securing a win at any cost.

Where?

Traverse Theatre, Edinburgh - until 27th September

Stewart - ★★★★

"Absolutely Fabulous meets Derry Girls in this enjoyably tart comedy with a delightfully troublesome family dynamic played expertly by the cast of three. The cast are clearly having a fun time as the hilarious script unfolds. Louise Haggerty in particular gets a deliciously wicked role as the mother that stoops to no ends to get her way.

A tale of Irish dancing competitions played with a real quirky spark of dark comedy. It's a fantastic hour's entertainment with fantastic live music (and sound effects) by Brian Jame O'Sullivan accompanying the chaos. Anna McGrath's script has some wonderful zingers and the direction by Laila Noble keeps the pace sprightly and revels the farcical elements of the second half of the show."
