Who needs a summer getaway when there’s the live-action Moana lapping between your toes? On 10 July, Disney’s modern-classic 2016 animation will turn real before your very eyes, and from Dwayne Johnson’s slappable demigod Maui to Jermaine Clement as a villainous coconut crab, this wayfinding quest feels so immersive, you’ll feel the sea spray in your face. No need to ask how far you’ll go: live-action Moana is showing all month at your local cinema (as Maui would say, you’re welcome).

Hilarious and profound, the Oscar-winning Pixar saga has always held up a mirror to our lives – now Toy Story 5’s timely tech-vs-toys premise will hook every frazzled parent and app-happy child. Buzz and Woody still live for owner Bonnie’s affections, but can they really compete with the limitless games, cat videos and social-media feeds of dastardly froggy tablet Lilypad (Greta Lee)? After watching Toy Story 5, you’ll confiscate their smartphones and make them play with a spinning top.

The Minions take on 1920s Hollywood? Sounds like the recipe for a disaster movie – but you can’t grasp the carnage until you book this third spin-off from Illumination’s five-billion-dollar Despicable Me universe. Plotting to make their own monster movie, the brand-new Minions lineup – that’s James, Henry, Ed and Dick – set sail for a forbidden island to capture the real thing. Will it all go to plan – or will everybody’s favourite cretinous canary-yellow capsules lose control of their beastly bringbacks? You really shouldn’t need to ask us that question.

Forget everything you think you know about Supergirl. Milly Alcock’s girl of steel is a snarky loose cannon, a shot-slamming liability – and the coolest thing to happen to the character in a generation. What starts off as an intergalactic drinking session soon turns into a revenge mission against stud-faced space pirate Krem Of The Yellow Hills – and don’t tell us you’re not curious to see Jason Momoa as a chopper-revving alien bounty hunter. After a debut like this, Kal-El will be playing catch-up.

Steven Spielberg might not have invented the alien genre, but he pretty much perfected it with Close Encounters Of The Third Kind (1977) and E.T. (1982). Now Disclosure Day is here to finish the job. Following the fantastical-but-creepy trailers, we still don’t know if Disclosure Day’s space invaders come in peace. What’s for sure is that it’s all kicking off between the humans, with Josh O’Connor’s whistleblower ruthlessly pursued by Colin Firth’s sinister spook. Be an intelligent lifeform and book your tickets now!
