Sometimes, for better or worse, your whole life can turn on a split-second event. Nobody knows that better than Kenna (Monroe), who returns to her hometown under a cloud of guilt, looking to build bridges with her daughter, and finding compassion in unlikely places. Based on the novel by Colleen Hoover (It Ends With Us), if you’re in the market for a romantic drama, Reminders of Him is a future classic.

Pixar! Is there a surer stamp of animated excellence? No, and Daniel Chong’s original movie looks like one of the desk lamp’s finest hours. Piper Curda voices Mabel, the pint-sized environmentalist whose plan to stop an evil construction firm bulldozing the local animal habitat sees her ping her consciousness, Avatar-style, into a mechanical beaver. “It’s a weird and wild premise,” says Empire, “that proves Pixar isn’t done experimenting with new ideas.”

Unfortunately, in this all-animal animation, Will (Caleb McLaughlin) is literally a goat, dooming his chances of playing roarball in the big leagues. But no ‘dream big’ story worth telling was easy, and you’ll cheer this hornéd hopeful every step of the way, while listening out for the starry voice cameos (Nick Kroll, Jennifer Hudson, real-life NBA sharp-shooter Stephen Curry…).
