Mix Up Star: ROBOTS

Updated: Jun 16, 2021

Mix Up Theatre lists our TOP 10 ROBOTS...

Whether they're clanky and clumsy or sleek and graceful, the robots in our favorite robot films make for memorable metal characters. Our collection has something for everyone, and even though they aren't human, these robots can still tickle your funny bone, inspire a tear or two, or even get you thinking critically about how we use technology in our lives. So recharge your batteries with one of these great films, cast your votes and get started on the LEGO Robot challenge!

1. WALL-E - WALL-E (2008)

(voiced by Ben Burtt)

Available on Disney+

Most adorable robot of all time? Very well could be! Pixar's WALL-E is a fantastic character - even though he doesn't say very much!

Robot wisdom...

" Eeeee... va?"

2. Baymax - Big Hero 6 (2014)

(voiced by Scott Adsit)

Available on Disney+

A loveable big robot who becomes a superhero by the end of the film. Brilliant!

Robot wisdom...

" I am not fast."

3. TARS - Interstellar (2014)

(voiced by Bill Irwin)

On TV: - Friday 18th June, Sky Cinema Sci-Fi/Horror, 6:00am & 5:35pm

TARS may look a bit clunky and simple but he ends up being the hero at one point. Christopher Nolan's intelligent sci-fi feels grounded in reality and TARS does come across like a 'real' robot of the future!

Robot wisdom...

"Absolute honesty isn't always the most diplomatic nor the safest form of communication with emotional beings."

4. BB-8 - Star Wars Episodes VII - IX (2015 - 2019)

Available on Disney+

How can a metal ball with a smaller metal ball on top of it be so charming? Well welcome to the Star Wars universe! BB-8, completely silent and one of the best characters in the franchise!

5. R2-D2 - Star Wars Episode I - Episode IX (1977 - 2019)

(performed by Kenny Baker)

Available on Disney+

It's the Tin Can of mischief in the Star Wars universe! Iconic character and probably not happy to be below BB-8!

6. C3PO - Star Wars Episode I - Episode IX (1977 - 2019)

(performed by Anthony Daniels)

Available on Disney+

Ok he nags at R2D2 a bit too much, but C3PO is actually really a nice guy and he appreciates greatly the friendship he has with all his Star Wars comrades.

Funniest line...

"We seem to be made to suffer. It's our lot in life."

7. Cookiebots - Despicable Me (2010)

Available on Amazon Prime

If you were going to eat any robot on this list, it would be these ones!

8. The Jaegers - Pacific Rim (2013) / Pacific Rim: Uprising (2018)

Available on Amazon Prime

Not technically a robot, more of a robot suit, but who can resist giant robots fighting giant monsters!

9. K-260 - Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016)

(performed by Alan Tudyk)

Available on Disney+

Another great robot in the Star Wars universe, K-260 steals the film!

Robot wisdom...

"There you are. I'm standing by as you requested, although there's a problem on the horizon. There's no horizon."

10. Arthur - Passengers (2016)

(performed by Michael Sheen)

Available on Netflix

The most human of the robots that appear in our list, Michael Sheen is great as the robot barman (on wheels) on a lonely spaceship.

Robot wisdom...

"I laughed at a man with no pants, until I realized I have no legs."
