When people think of Scotland, they often think of rain. Scots, in turn, have always had a lot to say about it! Our relationship with rain is both practical and deeply woven into our culture, landscape and national identity.

This exhibition makes a splash as we dive into Scotland's relationship with rain. From weather forecasting, fashion, and film, to rain-soaked love stories, climate emergencies, and everything in between.

Where?

National Library of Scotland - until 30th April 2027

Stewart - ★★★★★

"Don't you just love the rain? Well, maybe not all the time and perhaps in certain contexts. This is a lovely quirky exhibition that celebrates and gives a little appreciation to Scotland's famous go-to weather condition. There's plenty of interactive things to do - with the highlight being given the chance to do your own weather report.

The real highlight is seeing how rain has influenced and been a part of so much art and culture from Shakespeare's Macbeth, Miyazaki's My Neighbor Totoro, Pixar's Inside Out and Mary Shelley's Frankenstein - rain plays a pivotal role in so much - there's nothing as atmospheric as the rain in a scene. There are so many fantastic books in this exhibition that if you have time to spare you can spend hours reading away with the rain battering down in your imagination.

So let’s give a shout out to the rain, and as this exhibit is free, it's a must see to ignite the imagination.”
