Theatre REVIEW: Run, Rebel - ★★★★★

Updated: Nov 19

Pilot Theatre brings you an electrifying adaptation of Manjeet Mann’s acclaimed novel.

Amber is trapped – by her family’s rules, by their expectations, by her own fears. But on the running track she is completely free. As her body speeds up, the world slows down. And the tangled, mixed up lines in her head get s t r a i g h t e r . . .

This landmark production made especially for audiences of 11+ combines physical theatre, mesmerising visuals and a talented ensemble cast, setting the stage for a transformative story of revolution, empowerment and courage.

Run, Rebel was shortlisted for the Carnegie Medal 2021, a Scotsman’s Best Books for Teens and Guardian’s Best Books of 2020.

MIX UP REVIEWS:

Sam (Age 11) - ★★★★1/2

"Run Rebel is great because you can feel for the character and understand the trouble she is going through, whilst the plot is still feasible and that I feel is a rare thing in modern acting. All in all this is a masterfully put together, uplifting and terrifyingly realistic theatre production."

Archie (Age 12) - ★★★★

"I really liked the set (especially the use of the screen for the background) and the choreography. My favourite character was the father because he was funny. I liked the message which don't let your parents tell you what to do if you know what's right for you."

Ailie (Age 15) - ★★★★★

"Run, Rebel is a play about empowerment and courage. The main character is a 15-year-old girl called Amber who is trapped by her family's rules and the one place she feels free is on the running track. There were 6 actors in total and 5 of them were playing lots of different roles including her friends, parents, voices in her head and others. I would rate this show 5 stars as I thoroughly enjoyed it and I also found that story was really well told. Even though the show was 2 hours long it didn't feel like it as I was invested in what was going on."

Sandy (Age 11) - ★★★★★

"This show is class, theres not much else to say! it was hilarious, serious and scary. There was a big plot twist, I will not spoil it"

Sophie (Age 11) - ★★★★★

"Unbelievable - that's a word that came up to my mind after watching hing Run Rebel. The story was breathtaking and the acting was stunning. The actors perfectly suit their characters. The background and lighting made me feel like I was there, and it gave me chills. I would highly recommend it for people who love a bit of action and plot-twists. Incredible!"
