Theatre REVIEW: Beautiful: The Carole King Musical - ★★★★★

Updated: Apr 7, 2022

A brand new production of the Award Winning West End and Broadway show, Beautiful – The Carole King Musical.

Long before she was Carole King, the chart-topping music legend, she was an ordinary girl with an extraordinary talent. Beautiful tells the inspiring true story of King's remarkable rise to stardom, from being part of a hit song-writing team with her husband Gerry Goffin, to her relationship with fellow writers and best friends Cynthia Weil and Barry Mann, to becoming one of the most successful solo acts in popular music history.

Along the way, she wrote the soundtrack to a generation, with countless classics such as (You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman, Take Good Care of My Baby, You've Got a Friend, So Far Away, It Might as Well Rain Until September, Up on the Roof, and The Locomotion.

"I thoroughly enjoyed the show BEAUTIFUL - CAROLE KING, THE MUSICAL at the Festival Theatre in Edinburgh last night.

I didn't know much about Carole King before I went but the story was really good and easy to follow. It was about a girl who got successful writing hit songs for other people and then ended up singing her own songs and becoming really famous. It was also a lot about the love story of her and her husband Gerry.

The music in the show was gorgeous and utterly beautiful and at times very energetic. I loved the characters and their facial expressions were amazing. I also thought that the dancers were beautifully timed and danced to a really high standard.

As a reviewer I got to go to the Empire Room in the break for free ice cream - that was really fancy and a great moment of the night

I think the show deserves 5 stars - I thought it was amazing and I loved seeing it with my mum"
