Theatre REVIEW: A Play, A Pie & A Pint - Wallace - ★★★★

ree

The legend of Braveheart lives on…

Through the medium of hip hop - basically folk music in caps not cardigans - three performers bring historical figures such as Robert the Bruce, Edward Longshanks, and Marion Braidfute to life as they retell the story of William Wallace from birth to his glorious death, and beyond...

What does it mean to be Scottish? Which stories get remembered – and why? And who even was William Wallace anyway?

Wallace is a new musical by Rob Drummond and Dave Hook that explores Scotland’s greatest icon: his heroic acts, his indomitable spirit, and his contested place on the spectrum between myth and history.

Stewart - ★★★★

"This show certainly has mass appeal - Hamilton meets Braveheart!

The three performers are fantastic as they delve into the story of William Wallace from three different angles - this is perhaps the most interesting aspect of the performance, there's real consideration and detail in the thought of William Wallace's legendary status and the truth behind the tale. It certainly provides food for thought.

The music numbers are all wonderful, with a special mention to Edward Longshanks villainous introduction with a blase ruling over his people to a bombastic beat and humorous performance from Manasa Tagica.

The play does have a few awkward hurdles when it comes down to relaying historical facts in an entertaining manner but the energy of the performers keeps the pace upbeat.

This feels like the cusp of a national phenomenon, so book a ticket now and join the Wallace clan as a backer and ally."
