MIX UP REVIEWS:
Elizabeth (Age 8) & Mum - ★★★★★
"Disney’s The Sound of Music delivers exactly what you’d hope for from a live Disney experience: warmth, precision, and just the right amount of magic.
As a parent, I was initially concerned about whether my daughter (Elizabeth) would enjoy the show. After all, not many young children enjoy an orchestra. But these fears were almost immediately quelled.
The venue set the tone. With gold detailing throughout, it felt special from the outset, while still being comfortable enough to settle into (“the seats are soft and comfy,” as Elizabeth pointed out, which is an important detail for younger audience members).
For younger viewers, anticipation starts early. There’s an expectation of hearing familiar favourites like Frozen, Encanto, Snow White, even Lilo & Stitch and the production does a strong job of delivering moments that feel recognisable and exciting.
While the orchestra plays a melody of all your favourite Disney tracks, the screen above their heads brings it to life visually with movie clips brought together perfectly. Together, it’s an extremely impressive experience and at times, we even forgot that their was a live orchestra.
A standout highlight came during a Tangled scene, with the candlelight sequence earning particular praise: “I really liked it when Rapunzel and the prince light the candles.” It’s these visually simple but emotionally resonant moments that landed best.
Musically, the production is particularly strong. As Elizabeth put it: “The music is really, really good… they do it exactly like in the songs, and that’s really, really tricky.” That precision is noticeable and impressive especially given how complex many Disney arrangements are.
Perhaps the biggest compliment is that it leaves audiences wanting more. It captures the essence of Disney so well that it makes you want to go home and revisit the films. We already have a Disney marathon planned for the next family movie night.
As Elizabeth said: “Get ready for a touch of movie magic” and don’t forget to look down at the orchestra, an easy-to-miss detail that adds hugely to the experience.
Final verdict: 10/10. Would recommend."
